New Yorkers shred papers representing bad 2009 memories
New Yorkers and visitors have said goodbye to bad memories from 2009 by shredding documents, letters and photos in a public ceremony. Read more on the bbc website
1) Reflection of the year past - Sharing one highlight from the year before - Sharing a lucky lesson (a piece of wisdom/practical tip/recipe/book recommendation etc.) that you discovered from the last year 2) Celebration of close ones - Mark day with a get together with locally produced, home made and/or ethically produced food and drink - Make cards and presents if you want but importantly nothing bought specially 3) Thinking of others/strangers - Spend the week before without luxury(ies) e.g. alcohol, confectionary, non-local produce, TV, car travel, eating out - Spend the day before performing acts of kindness to strangers
